Foods you think are healthy BUT AREN’T #1: WHOLE WHEAT BREAD

WHY WE THINK IT’S HEALTHY:

Whole grains are far superior to refined white bread because of the added bran and vitamins. American nutritional guidelines recommend that half or more of your grains be whole.

WHY IT’S NOT:

Sure, the extra bran adds a tiny bit more fiber and B vitamins to your bread, but 100% whole wheat and refined white bread have essentially the same impact on your blood sugar.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
On a glycemic index scale of 1 to 100, where pure glucose equals 100, white bread and whole wheat bread both have the same value of 71 — a pretty high value. With wheat as our staple, it’s easy to see how the obesity epidemic came about.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But if wheat was a staple since biblical times, why is it considered unhealthy now? There are 3 main reasons why the wheat of today is different than the wheat of yesteryear:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1) GENETICALLY DIFFERENT: We used to eat Emmer, Einkorn, and Kumut wheat, but all wheat today is high-yield Dwarf wheat. It’s less nutritious, contains 19-28% less iron, copper and magnesium, and is much MUCH higher in gluten.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2) PROCESSED DIFFERENTLY: We used to soak, sprout, ferment and bake with slow-rise yeast. This reduced phytates, lectins, gluten, and disabled enzyme inhibitors. Grains are now bleached and baked with quick-rise yeast or enzyme packets.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3) GLYPHOSATES: A broad spectrum herbicide in RoundUp that seriously disrupts your gut flora. It’s tightly linked to obesity, autism, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s, depression, infertility, and certain cancers. It also contributes to leaky gut, vitamin D inactivation, impaired bile acid synthesis, fat metabolism, and sulphate supply. RoundUp is mostly sprayed on wheat, corn, and soybeans, and we ingest glyphosate residues whever we eat these.

Can’t live without bread? Then better choose traditionally-prepared breads made from heritage wheat. If anyone knows a place where they sell these (mention the city as well) please leave it in the comments!
